AAP/NJ Third Annual New Jersey Children's Ball - The Manor, West Orange, NJ, April 20, 2013,
The Children’s Ball tradition of honoring outstanding pediatricians, legislators and advocates for children and families in New Jersey continues with another year of exceptional dining and Broadway-caliber entertainment. The evening's featured entertainment is Joseph Charles "Joe" Piscopo, a New Jerseyan comedian, singer and actor, best known for his work on Saturday Night Live where he played a variety of recurring characters. Joe will take the stage for an evening of great songs, comedy and lots of surprises.
For 2013, the prized “Pediatrician of the Year” award will be proudly presented to Dr. Steven Kairys. Dr. Kairys serves as Chairman of Pediatrics at Jersey Shore University Medical center and Professor of Pediatrics at the Robert wood Johnson Medical School. He has been a leader for several AAP/NJ/NJ PCORE initiatives related to improving pediatric health outcomes and office-based systems change, including: Medical Home, Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Lead Poisoning Prevention. Joining Dr. Kairys in this year’s spotlight as “Children’s Advocates of the Year” are Assemblywoman, Mary Pat Angelini, Assemblyman Herb Conoway Jr, MD and Lawrence Frenkel, MD, FAAP, FACAAI, FPIDS. Assemblywoman Angelini introduced the “Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights” and the “911” legislation. Dr. Conoway was the primary sponsor of more than 190 bills in 2012, most focusing on expanding access to care and medicine and safeguarding children and families. Dr. Frenkel is a dedicated member of the Government Affairs Committee, where he has been instrumental in advancing the Chapter’s priorities with the legislature.
