I already belong to the National AAP; why should I become a member of the New Jersey Chapter?
Dicounts on Programs & Events
- Registration Discounts on many annual Conventions and Special Events
- New Jersey Chapter Members are eligible to join the AAP NJ Purchasing Alliance, qualifying New Jersey pediatricians for a 20% discount on their medical malpractice premiums with MDAdvantage (saving at least $1,800 and as much as $3,600 per year)
- Education
- Attend local Continuing Medical Education meetings sponsored by the Chapter including lunch hour teleconferences designed for the entire practice staff.
- Weekly e-blast with comprehensive information and alerts on many types of CME opportunities, as well as leadership opportunities and legislative updates.
- Receive AAP NJ's newsletter "The New Jersey Pediatrician" and other informative mailings.
- Opportunities to participate in PCORE (Pediatric Council on Research and Education) EPIC (Educating Physicians in the Community) programs and access to onsite quality improvement technical assistance.Most are free of cost!
- Prepare yourself for the future role of the pediatrician in the health care system and for the future management of their practices.
Networking

Advocacy
- Promote the interests of New Jersey pediatricians in the American Academy of Pediatrics.
- Keep abreast of developments in the state’s medical liability insurance crisis; developments specific to New Jersey’s pediatricians.
- Increase your knowledge of and participation in legislative and advocacy activities at a local level.
- Increase involvement in the legislative arena to positively influence the quality of pediatric practice and the welfare of children in New Jersey.
- Tap into AAP NJ's many partnerships with State and Local organizations.
- Join the many committees the New Jersey Chapter offers, such as the Government Relations Committee, Seniors, Young Physicians and more.
Leadership
- Participate in Chapter committees, NJPCORE Advisory Groups and State Committees/Councils in areas of interest.
- Have the opportunity to develop as a leader and mentor, and serve in Chapter Leadership positions.
- Stand up and be a leader among NJ’s pediatrician community.
- Develop and enhance your leadership skills as a result of your involvement with the NJ Chapter, and have the opportunity to be sent to AAP District and National Leadership Workshops and Advocacy Workshops.
What has your Chapter done lately?
- Created an AAP NJ Central office with a team of 15 to respond to Chapter/membership needs and Quality Improvements through NJ PCORE.
- Advocacy: Established an Active Government Relations Committee
- Expanded membership benefits e.g. opened the NJ Purchasing Alliance.
- Enhanced communication with members through weekly E-news, Quarterly Newsletter and new Website.
- Increased Community outreach prevention programs through NJPCORE: medical home, early identification of autism, early childhood immunization and obesity prevention.
- Completed a Strategic Planning Session with assistance from National AAP.
- Kept members informed of alerts and updates on H1N1.
- Actively assisted to increase Medicaid payment and working to ensure medical home payments.
- Provided CME and CEU training to over 1,200 Health Care Providers in 2009!
