| AAP Letter to Secretary Sebelius - Patient Protection & Affordable Care ActThe American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a non-profit professional organization of 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, congratulates you on the recent enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The Administration now faces the herculean task of implementing this landmark law, and the AAP looks forward to working closely with you to ensure that the health of every child is improved. One of the earliest PPACA provisions to take effect creates Section 2713 of the Public Health Services Act, Coverage of Preventive Health Services. This vital provision requires all health plans to cover, with no cost-sharing, “with respect to infants, children, and adolescents, evidence-informed preventive care and screenings provided for in the comprehensive guidelines supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration,” meaning the services outlined in Bright Futures: Guidelines for Health Supervision of Infants, Children, and Adolescents. read more ... |

September 1, 2009 - AAP NJ thanks Dr. David M. Namerow, M.D., FAAP of PediatriCare Associates, Fairlawn, New Jersey for participating in Senator Menendez’s press conference at Holy Name Hospital on the need for healthcare reform. The program, which had great media coverage by the national media outlets, demonstrated the importance of combining pediatricians and their patients and families to advance support for providing access to care for children. Dr. Namerow referenced the AAP Endorsed Principles on Access, in his remarks. Fran Gallagher, MEd, AAP and PCORE Executive Director, and Nancy Pinkin, AAPNJ’s advocate, also attended the event.
